Shock orientation
Installing new boge shocks I got from Rogers into the old springs. I noticed that the bottom of the shocks where the pin inserts into has one rubber side slightly concave while the other is slightly convex. Does this matter in where to turn the shock's orientation, front vs back?

Bottom/lower bolts, front and rear.
The rear shocks can only go on one way, since the bottom portion is angled. Look closely before you start fighting with them, the lower long bolt can only slide through when they are clocked/positioned correctly.
Front shocks, I've never noticed any difference in the lower rubber portion.
What year car are you working on?
Brian.

yes...they can only go in one way, the bottom shock mount is at an angle.
One way, it will not be in-line with the control arm, turn it 180d, and it will be in-line with it.
Dont worry about how the rubber looks, the concave washers don't go there..just orient the shock so that the bottom is in-line with the rest of the hardware. Get it backwards and the only harm is that the pin will NEVER go through the shock mount.

HI HOI your clue on orientation is to put the white paint dot on the bottom of the shock to the rear of the car
otherwise match the angle before you remove the shocks
otherwise match the angle before you remove the shocks

yes...the rear ones can only go in one way CORRECTLY, the bottom shock mount is at an angle.

Dont worry about how the rubber looks, the concave washers don't go there..just orient the shock so that the bottom is in-line with the rest of the hardware. Get it backwards and the only harm is that the pin will be much harder to get through through the shock mount.

Putting the darn things in backwards IS possible, but it makes the back end squirrelly while accelerating, and can bend the large pin that holds it all together. If that happens, it is very difficult to remove and would need to be replaced.
I've fixed the shock orientation on at least 3 cars myself.

Note that the top mount only goes in one way as well - the triangle is not symmetrical! My first one went in first try, but I had real trouble with the second before realized what was going on.

When I've done mine I just use a marker pen to put coloured mark on one of the studs, and mark matching hole on car body with same pen.
