Default original radio for the 1990 GT ?

My S4 had a nice aftermarket Alpine in it, and my GT has a "Porsche" CD-2 player in it that must not be hooked up to an amp. It sounds atrocious.

So my question is:

What is the model/name of the radio that should be original to my car? 1990 928 GT.
Could the "Porsche CD-2" be an original option for my model year?

For what it's worth, the radio looks like it was just shoved into the dash; no trim around the bracket. Makes me think that it was someone's idea in the past.

Thank you.

1990 US 928s either had a Blaupunkt Reno or an Alpine CD-2, depending on whether they had option M158 or M691, respectively. Both send pre-amp signal to a 6-channel Blaupunkt amp, which is semi-famous for having bad channels. And/or your speakers (if original) may have dead foam surrounds.

If you post the VIN of the GT I can tell you what it was supposed to have, if the option sticker in the warranty book and/or on the rear cargo deck is illegible. .

Rob,

The vin is WP0JB2922LS860330 . I think you told me once that it has the M158 option. Not sure what that means though exactly.

If it is the "Blaupunkt Reno"; what version of the radio would I need for my Model Year? I really appreciate the help.
