Default Access to temp freeze switch

Does one have to remove the hood or hinges to remove the cowl cover ?

If I don't have to remove the hood the better since alignment afterwards is a bugger !

I need to change my temp freeze (anti-freeze) switch, so I will have to remove the cowl cover. At least if I break it in any way I am not worried, since I have an extra cowl cover provided by Jerry Feather in case.

No, you don't. In back, it slides up over 3 or 4 metal tabs (getting it back over those tabs is sometimes tricky, but make sure you do, otherwise the wiper movement can interfere with it).
