Well...
I've got a tube of the real Optimoly HT for use on clutch splines. Oddly gooey.
I suppose dry may be fine for the studs... If you torque them right and remove them often.
The directions are contradictory. Like it was written by multiple authors.
I've had problems on cars with stuck lug nuts and galling between steel nuts and aluminum wheels. So I'll continue my pattern, too: Basic silver anti-seize on the studs occasionally and always torquing to spec.
