87 S4 Auto- Fuel Control Vacuum Port

Default 87 S4 Auto- Fuel Control Vacuum Port

Howdy, looking to do A fuel pressure test tonight and hopefully start this week. I was bored late last night after fitting in the reworked injector harness. I grabbed a Vac tester and put it on the white vac line from under the intake. It ends up feeding the 7 way. It is more clearly depicted on the last photo that shows the belly of the fuel control.


Held no vacuum..

Should it?

It would have been nice if I checked this before install

If so, what is the problem to expect.

Were you trying to test the intake, or the vacuum system with your tester? If you were connected to the hose running to the intake/throttle body, you test with the engine running and should see ~17-18" there on your gauge at engine idle. Drawing vacuum there with a hand pump is futile. Even with the engine at a 45º point so no cylinder has two valves open, that's still a huge amount of air to try to draw out with a hand pump.

Thanks Doc..
I was hoping you would chime in. I tested the intake but vaguely remember that it was useless to test that single line. Fuel pressure test passed, no leaks..Start for the first time tonight in 3 years if the rain stops.

Thanx all,
In the end, I am still putting Lipstick on a pig. This engine has known thrust bearing WAY out of tolerance. So, this is just practice for when I get another motor relatively soon. I truly know every bolt under the hood.
The list of things done is long and expensive. But, Most all of the work will benefit the new motor.

Couldn't have done it without this team on Renlist.

Eternal thanks to all..Stay tuned..haha

It looks like you are using thread sealing tape on your fuel lines?
This should not be used on fuel injection systems because small bits can get in the lines and ruin injectors.
The other thing is the thread is not sealing your joint, the 2 tapered surfaces are the sealing surfaces.
Please don't take this as criticism, I only want to help with a great result.

If you mean the white plastic pipe that comes up from the throttle body down in the valley and up into the 7 way thing? Sucking on that line will just draw air in from the throttle body/air cleaner for ever.
If you are sucking up the other way, that is, up into the 7th part of the 7 way thing and into the 4 things you have connected, then you should hold vacuum.

Thanks for the clarification on the Vac,

No criticism at all, I appreciate the feedback.

I Totally agree.
I use the sealing tape on the last few threads of the nipple. No real reason I guess except it gives me a seal against outside corrosion, if that even makes sense..I understand the sealing surface is the face of the nipple. I actually put a thin film of 704 on those..
