Default Will this pump fit a 1986 US-spec S ?

It appears that a small leak has started near the water pump on my 1986 928S. This is a US car with the 5-litre engine and 4-valve heads.

I inherited a number of spares a short while ago including a water pump. The spare is pictured. Can I simply remove the arm/finger and the post and install this unit in my car? The part has 928 106 140 OR cast into the pump case. The impeller pulley has 928 106 190 07 stamped on the face of the pulley. The impeller is not made of metal.

The arm/finger is held on by a 4 mm set screw and a 10 mm bolt. The post (that the 4 mm set screw mounts into) is threaded into the case of the pump. I removed the post with a 19 mm deep socket. Overall the spare pump seems to have consistent bolt spacing to the unit that is in the car. The leaking pump remains installed while the parts are rounded up.

Planning on a new belt, gasket and possibly rollers while in there. Current pump, belt and rollers have been in service for 3 years and about 15,000 miles.

Thanks!

Nope....you have an 1987 > S-4 spare pump. It lacks the raised boss for the tensioner arm pivot.

This can be used with a Porken tensioner if you want to go that way.

+1

You can pretty much complete a PKT-B installation for the price of a new -86 water pump...which you'll need if you retain the maintenance-intensive stock tensioner system.

All PKT kits come with hardware to delete the 87- pump arm and pivot post.

Once you have a PKT the old flashing light is totally redundant and not needed ever again 8>)

Totally true - once you fit a PKT the warning light is removed and no longer needed - in fact I do not know anyone that has a PKT fitted that has a warning light (that works).

By your answer I assume you were able to do this with a PKT fitted - care to share how please?

Deleting something doesn't make it redundant. It just means it was removed. If I remove the seat belts from my car, does it mean they were redundant? My definition of redundant means it's a duplicate of an existing system. Redundant systems are back up of back ups.

Sorry I did not think for a minute that I was getting sucked into semantics and thought you were serious about the subject - please forget I said anything and back to our normal service.
