Default Another milestone

Took my baby on it's longest voyage since I've owned her...caravanned with a bunch of local PCA guys across the state to Everglades City for some stone crabs. She ran like a champ, I'm happy to say. Without being too specific, she hit some faster speeds than I've had her at before on Alligator Alley.

I'm still getting some vibration around 90. Nowhere nearly as bad as before I had my wheels balanced, but more than should be there I think. It got better somewhat north of there, actually

And I need to swap out these damn bouncy shocks...

It's a nice feeling, when your hard work pays off.

Usually, after I've done a bunch of things on the 84 I start out doing short drives. Maybe, 20/30 miles a crack after work or 70 miles to/from work. Then after about a week of that, I pull her back in the garage and recheck my work. If everything is okay, we breakout the long 200/300 mile cruises.

Confidence builds with each mile, so keep the wheels turning.

Brian.

Outstanding advice!

When I bought my 84 in LA last year, I spent 2 hrs driving around in LA traffic before I headed out of town.

If things broke, I wanted it to be local to the previous owner and where I could get help...NOT stranded out in the desert 100s of miles away from anyone and any help...

Ensure it's good local and THEN take the long voyages

Sage advice for all.

As per high speed vibration with balanced tires.,
About a year ago, I had my fronts reballenced, after the new wheel bearings I still had a slight vibration.
The tire balancer guy showed me the tire while spinning on the balancer, although the rim was true, the tire was actually out of round.

That's interesting...I definitely did not notice this with the old wheels/tires, and these tires "look fine" with plenty of tread, but they were stored on the wheels that I bought for a while...so I really don't know their history.
