Is it Leather or Vinyl?? (87S4)
Cruising around the Big 3 web sites, looking to upgrade a few pieces. I see some items available in both leather or vinyl.
Which part is which? Any link to this info? Or, what can you tell me about
my 87?
Dash?
Center Console?
Rear side panels?
Also concerned with which preservative to use on which part.
Thanks!
Jay

Just about everything in the interior was available in leather. Doors, dash, console,. seats, rear q. panels, and more. This was the luxury Porsche, after all.
I use Lexol on my leather.

Most if not all '87's I have seen have leather back quarter panels and leather door panels........I think it may have been standard up to '88??
Any dash/console part could be had in leather but it was not standard for the '87 year model.
Starting in '89 more vinyl was used.......standard on back quarter and door panels......except for the door insert.......this stayed leather till the end I believe. As always you could get leather on just about anything, but was
an option after '89.
The leather dash and quarter panels tend to take a beating over the years by the sun......very rare is to find something that isn't warped/dried out and starting to look bad, where vinyl tends to hold up much better, but may not look as nice in the beginning.

general statement ...leather has stitched sewn seams so if the dash ,instrument pod, console, door inner arm rest/handle do NOT have seams they are vinyl .

Thanks all!!
Thanks for the help identifying what might be what.
I've run through the option codes and I think I have a good idea now.
For what it's worth, I use Leatherique as well, and have for years on all my cars. Great stuff! Just trying to get an idea of where to put it. Sometimes after a few years it gets hard to tell what is what.
Turns out I have mostly Vinyl on the pod, dash, and door panels, which is fine with me for longevity sake.
Thanks for the help, as always.
