First of all, hello to everyone! I'm just about to purchase a 1979 ROW 928 with what looks like a green and grey pinstripe interior.
The problem is there is not much history on the car and the current owner claims the interior use to be black and grey and faded to look like this green.
I think it was originally this dark green. Does anyone here know if this interior existed for this year?
I am attaching some pictures as I'd really like to get to the bottom of this.
I actually prefer that it was green as it gives off a nice contrast as the exterior is metallic black.
Not that I know all options that were available, but I think the owner might be right. At least my interior is also slightly this color although it was originally probably black with gray/white pinstripes.
However according to PET there was an option called dark green/cork for the pinstripe inserts.
I don't _think_ they made a green and white pinstripe cloth, though who knows? Probably easiest to lift up the front edge of the rear lower seat cushion and see what color is there.

Thanks for the reply. Did both your front and back seats fade evenly?
That's what gives me pause here and leads me to believe that green may be original. But who knows, you may be right.

That's a good idea, thank you. I am going to have him take some pictures for me.
I am buying the car sight unseen since 78's and 79's with distinctive colors and interiors are almost impossible to get a PPI on as they sell almost as soon they are listed.
I live in France and watch the market constantly and I can tell you, these early cars are very hot items in terms of demand. This applies to all of europe.
If it runs as good as it looks, buy it now and make the seat inserts whatever color you like.
Ha ha thank you. The seller and I have already agreed on terms. The wire is going out first thing tomorrow morning.
As far as how it runs, he seems like an honest guy from our conversations. Owns a local ford dealership in Brittany and this was actually his personal vehicle he was going to restore and had already started on mechanically.
He also assured me it could handle the 5-6 hour drive to Paris with no problems.
I forgot to add a picture of the engine bay. I would appreciate it if you let me know if anything out of the ordinary jumps out at you.
If I were to guess, It's black faded to dark green. If you look at the edges of the first pic in the crease at the upper edge it looks black. Very nice car. By the way I've been meaning to ask if the french cars had H4 Headlights that are yellow. Just curious as I think the 928 in the AC/DC video had them. Would be a cool look with the right color car...
My 78 had the same issue...black turned greenish color. Not quite as bad as this car, but similar in different lighting conditions. But, I would assume different dye lots would react differently to natural aging and conditions they were subjected to.
The new material that is being put on my seats, by Rob Budd (innocent shameless plug), is black with white pin strips, and should hold up better to UV conditions.
Good luck, with your new acquistion. She's a beauty.
