Default Build codes

Hi everyone,
I know this topic has been discussed over the years across the product lines. But, I need help. I got lost looking at the posts.

My 1981 928 is missing it's build/option code sticker(s). I have the COA and verified the information on 928oc (yes, I am a member). But, everything I am finding in my research is for option codes, not the mundane build codes.

For example, my shark is a 5-speed manual (code # M481). The COA does not show this as this was most likely a build code not an option code.

Also, I may have the 'Competition package' option (seats, shocks, spoilers and what-not) but not as an option (meaning it was a build code not an option for this car. My COA shows option # M471 which decode as "Integrated Rear Spoiler (87-89)". Yet, I have a 1981, not an 87-89.

I definitely have the leather dash/door panel/leather seat front & sides but not shown on the COA.

I guess my basic question is: How does one find the build codes without having the sticker(s). I do have the original owner's manual but alias, no sticker.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Ed

It all should be on the cardex which Porsche uses to create the COA. Sometimes they only put some of the info on the COA. I would call Porsche and have them re-do the COA with that info in place. I have done that in the past and they seemed more than happy to do so, as they should because you paid big $$ for a piece of paper and it's the least they could do.

There weren't any stickers in '81 MY. IIRR it came next year but in any case later. Way to find codes is to check from PET or order CoA from Porsche. They are not always 100% right but that's best we can get.

M471 is Sport group 1 meaning Competition group. Same option numbers were used for different meanings on different MY.
