Park indicator stays on
Quick question. When I shut the car off, the P indicator stays lit. Can't figure it out. I'm thinking it might be somehow related to the ignition switch or is there something else I'm missing?
Before you ask, I was in the fuse panel replacing my blower fuse and relay but I swear I didn't do anything else!
thanks guys...

When I review the WD I see two connections to the illumination where the issue may lie. One is the ignition switch, and the other is the starter interlock/backup light switch. If it were the ignition switch I would think you would have other symptoms occurring. The starter interlock switch would be a more simple and isolated cause of the illumination if switch were stuck in closed circuit (see page 4 of Wiring Diagram).
A question for you, does the R, N, D or other bulbs remain illuminated also ? If so, it is likely the interlock switch as they all feed from there. I'm not sure of diagnostic testing at this point, though I have some ideas. Would like to hear from the other Wise ones on this.
Here is a link to the switch and its removal if needed. The interlock switch is on page 4.7.1

I have a somewhat related question. I replaced all the bulbs in the dash, and afterwards the 2 on the dash intermittently worked. Now it doesn't at all. Could it be the interlock switch?

Theoretically possible, but these are the solder type replacements and I don't even trust myself with soldering.

I'll have to take a look when I'm not on my phone _ thanks!
Also I just confirmed that all gear lights stay on (depending on the gear it's left in)

I've noticed on an 86.5 Auto, the Indicator will stay on after the car is started and remain on after it is turned off until the key is actually removed, you will hear a "click" (light goes out).
This is triggered by the small switch located on the bottom of the arm that holds the Ignition switch.
I've also noticed that earlier S2/S3's have a Zip Tie along w/ twos small screws to assist the contacts.
Looks like it was upgraded on the S4's and they do not have the Zip ties, there are 3 wires going to the switch (Black w/ Blue) is one of them), I'll see if I can find some Pics later on.

Black/Blue is for Pod Switch, Dash, and Center Console Illumination.
The 'on all the time' Headlight Switch bulb is powered through a Black line.

Sorry your correct I was wrong, the correct color is Red w/ Black and a Red.
Here are some pic's the first is the location on an '88 (looks like more than 3 wires too) the other is an '86 three wire connection on the Harness its wrapped tight to a black flat plastic with two molded in connections, unlike the '88's.
The last pic you can see the colors and a rigged switch w/ out it the Selector light didn't work and Backup light didn't work unless the parking light were on
I changed out the entire wire harness as it was completely cut up.

On the ignition switch at pins labeled 1 & 2 which I can only describe as being outside the positioning of the key turn, the four lines which emanate are as follows (for an S4):
Pin 1 SW/RT - seatbelt sensing/warning controller
Pin 1 SW/RT - to tachometer
Pin 2 *RT/SW - input to Fuse 24 interior lights
Pin 2 RT/BL - to tachometer
As best as I can tell it looks like the feed to each PRND bulb gets powered at the interlock switch. I'm not familiar with the tach circuitry yet so I'm not certain what these lines are for. I'll listen and learn.
