CPS stuck 1987 auto
Why is nothing ever simple on these cars?!?
Trying to remove the crank sensor. It turns but does not come out. Soaked it in blaster over night and even tried heat.
Any hints?
Thanks
John

Just had this problem last week. Totally destroyed the old CPS trying to get it out.
Tried the PB Blaster like you have but no go. Then broke off the plastic T part on top while slowly pulling on it. Then the inner metal rod was exposed so put the vice grips on that and pried on that combo but the rod came out leaving the plastic metal sleeve behind in the hole. (Because of the stage of my upper refresh, I don't have anything in the engine valley at the moment so I have plenty of room for prying on this little bugger.) Next I inserted an appropriately sized lag bolt, with washer, into that remaining plastic housing. Used a small impact wrench to seat the lag bolt as that plastic sleeve was just rotating at this point. Then slowly pried up on that lag bolt/washer and it finally came out.
I believe a few cuss words were invented while dealing with this.

Wow, i know that feeling. I've had two break off trying to get them out and one was brand new! I dug both out with a small flat head screw driver and long handled needle nose pliers.
The other way is removing the flywheel and driving it down.
good luck

if you have not destroyed the top portion,
it seems the best way is to turn the CPS about 90 degrees,
then wrap some mechanics wire around it,
then put a prybar on the cowl,
wrap the wire around the prybar,
then pull up .
depending on how much heat you used,
it could have melted the sensor into the hole,
or its just corroded.
Worst case you have to remove the bell housing lower and work the sensor out from the bottom,
careful you dont damage the flywheel ring.
NOTE the center piece of metal in the sensor is a magnet

The magnet is too hard to drill. I had luck doing the following:
I used a soldering iron to melt the plastic around the magnet and scope bits of plastic out. Once I got enough of the plastic out you can grip the magnet with some pliers and the magnet will pull out easy. The trick is to melt/dig enough plastic out. After removing the magnet I sunk a wall hook into the remaining CPS body and pulled the rest out.
