Ignition Switch Removal.
Hi-
I must say that this is the best bunch of 928 owners anywhere.
Currently the ignition switch in my '79 5speed is acting flakey.
When I insert the key and try to start it nothing happens - but when I apply pressure and jiggle it back and forth I can sometimes get it to start - but not all of the time.
I have already checked the relay and jumpered it, so at least the relay is good.
I would like to remove the switch and hopefully clean the contacts and it will work fine.
After seaching the shop manuals and this forum I have been unable to find out how to remove the igniton switch.
Can someone either explain how to remove the switch or provide a link?
Thank you all and best wishes.
Carson

You would be best to just replace the ignition switch. They are not re-buildable per se, and when they fail, the results may be not what you expected.
In order to remove the switch, you must first loosen the pod and back it away from the dash. Once that is done, the switch is held in by 2 screws as well as a metal clip which is meant to hold the electrical connector in place with the switch. Be forewarned that these 2 screws are a real PITA to get to.

2 screws that hold the plastic cover under the steering wheel.
2 10mm hex head bolts under the plastic cover.
Slightly loosen the turn signal assembly and pull out.
2 6mm allen head bolts - back towards the windshield.
There's more, but I have to run right now.

For any one who does not know Jay " plays " with the stuff which glows in the dark and without which the entire power grid would probably go down .
