Looks like a nice start for someone that wants to restore a 78.

Hope it ends up here, and someone does an extensive/well documented restoration.

Brian.

I like very early 928 characteristics because they are weird and unique, and that makes them particularly special.

Most people like a low VIN serial#, whether is be RoW or US build... because it's kind of neat and often piques curiosity (that's been my experience with it).

This is '77 928 RoW #0088. From this view, it has unique features not found on a US #0088 (nevermind the S4 Gulideckels). It's body is as pure as it comes, and that makes it special... to me. Others have reacted favorably to it as well.

No side-markers. No right-side mirror.

I've got one car (US) with no right-side mirror. I find myself looking out that spot and thinking "There's no car" when I should be thinking "There's no mirror."

Which still does Not answer what is special. .....it is not like coin collecting where the first stamping from a die are most defined.... but no matter if people wish to THINK it is special that is all that matters. No one needs a $100,000 old 928.... some just want one

James, are you responding to Glen's or my post? Unless I've misunderstood, I answered your question. There are other reasons, but the purest bodied early 928 certainly is one of the most special aspects.
And this isn't just my opinion (professional or otheriwse), because I believe it is gaining broader appeal.

Jim, that's pure awesomeness! Gotta love the no mirror no side marker cars....very "pure" as you noted...any idea at what VIN the Euro sidemarkers started? Out of curiosity has there been any sign or sighting of the existence US VIN #1 (VIN 00011)? Was it a "special" car like a "press" or "dealer promo" or crazy "show" color/interior or just a regular 928 off the line?

RoW sidemarkers started @ s/n 0480. (Edited, see 928CS's post below) Off-hand, I couldn't remember if it was 300 or 500, and I was too tired to go look at my notes.

I suspect most (if not all) early US cars were spoken for, as dealerships were waiting for the delayed and slow production startup of US 928s.
They really cranked out ALOT of RoWs before US prod really kicked into gear near Jan '78! We're talking like only 50'ish US cars thru Nov '77.

Number 1 US may have been built before the '78 production model/year kickoff (Aug '77), but it still would have been a 'normal' production built 928.

This is a really good looking car, something about the early models that I really love.

For me the "special early 928's" are the RoW ones with a VIN under 928 810 0479 (included).
Just because these are the ones without side markers on the front wings.

This is the original design of the 928

I REALLY shouldn't have, but I paid too much for #44. The car was delivered today. Had to jumpstart it to get off the trailer and the truck that delivered it broke down in front of the house, but in all, not a bad delivery. Now I get to deal with an out of state title but it should be worth it.

Plan is to replace the front seats with correct ones, replace the exhaust and wheels with originals, and minor stuff, then have some fun with it.,

Nice score, Bran.

You sure are amounting a pile of OB cars. I'm glad the car ended up here on rennlist, looking forward to following its journey.

Cool snag, Bran. You are catching me! I'm not sure you paid too much as much as bought too early...very desirable car and will likely be worth that and more soon...good luck with it!
