When is it a New to Me Car?
Hey,
Unfortunately, due to personnel problems my 94 GTS has been at a local shop getting re-ringed and a few other things for a year now. Besides rings, getting Devek headers, custom x-pipe, bigger injectors, tuned for them with existing Sharktuner.
In the mean time I've been driving an 04 Cayenne S.
So, how long not driving the 928 I own does it take before when I do get it back and start driving once again it would be considered like a new to me 928?

Richard,
Our 89 has been sitting in the garage since we got back from 3rd coast last year. Haven't had time to get it to Greg Brown's for a trans rebuild. It'll feel new whenever I get to drive it again. Hopefully in the next month or so.

This is a great question. It's humorous to me how the 928 "fits" into my life right now...
I have found that it amounts to A PERFECT STORM when I am actually able to make progress.
Of course, life, work, family, neighbors, chores, repairs daily disasters, etc etc etc will always take priority over my 928 project; but even when those priorities are not in the way it still takes a perfect storm for me to get anything done. I have to have the right tool. Ooops. I need to order a part. Ooops. I need batteries for the headlight so I can see what I'm doing. Oooops. I need to print out 'that part' of the WSM. Ooops. Where did I leave the PB Blaster? Ooops. Better check Rennlist before I take that apart. Ooops. It just goes on and on...
But the funny thing is that the 928 is somehow staying in the "fun zone" for me. Usually by this time I am fed up and actively ignoring a project. I think a big part of that is the sheer absurdity of an untrained, uneducated, unskilled, unpaid, unequipped guy rebuilding a broken 30+ year-old World Class German Supercar in his garage. LOL. That's just hilarious. Something this crazy HAS to be fun ! !
I think I am somewhere around 1 yr since I drove this thing.

Mine's "new to me" every spring when I take it for it's first drive after Winter hibernation. I'm getting very antsy for that "new" car (again).
I know as soon as I get it out this Spring we will get that dumping of snow we never got this past Winter.
