Default Starting woes. Sounds like a machine gun.

Well,
I went to start the S4 yesterday and all I got was a loud repetitive clicking sound that for some reason seemed to be amplified by coming through my speakers. Batter is fine. Engine isn't cranking at all. Must be electrical? It sounds like rapid fire. Very wierd. I'm getting some code, which I don't remember at this time being displayed on the LCD display. It said something "1988". I don't remember. Either way, what could this be? The weather has been getting colder here and it had been sitting for some time without being started.

Thanks

That might be the starter .....solenoid clicking in and out . Posssibly low voltage in battery which causes it to click in and out ...... remove battery and test it / recharge if possible or buy a new battery .

Good to hear. I have a charger so I'll charge it up and see if it remedies this. Then I'll go ahead and diagnose the battery. Thanks!

To be safe disconnect the battery from the car while charging it MAY help protect some of the computers from power surges and never ever allow anyone to turn a big charger up on" mega watt kill START " and crank the engine .
