Trans drop and swap
Man, I am sick of performing this routine.....
1st time- 2001 torque tube
2nd time- 2001 forgot converter bearings-duh!
3rd time- 2003 spring- torque converter bearings bad again!!??
4th time- 2003 fall- was in a rush in the spring, failed to seat the converter properly- rebuilt transmission!
Now, I like my car and all but holy #@$%! I could have put in a SC for that time and effort.

Sorry for your pain, but looks like two out of the four times it all had to be dropped was.......how should I put this lightly........not car related but mechanic / owner related.
Don't get me wrong.......I've BTDT on my first two 928's on several issues. Now this time around I have the manuals, make sure I take my time, buy the correct tool if needed, etc. It's been a much more enjoyable relationship this time around, with much less money spent by doing it right the first time and not rushing. As much as I wanted to blame Porsche, the design engineers, and the bean counters sometimes for a few frustrating
problems.........the 928 is designed very well compared to most other junk out there and the "beef" found on most parts is really quite remarkable.
Hope it's better for you this time around......

Damb. It looks like it would save thousands doing it youself, but I'm inclined to let the guys who are forced to do it right (or do it again on their own time/dime) take care of it. How long has it taken to do the "tranny drop" each time? - Ruf

Brendan,
You could become the official transmission-dropper for all of New England.
Hey, if you're up to a little travel it might make a nice second income.
