Default Dash Covers?

I tried an archive search but couldn't find discussions about dashboard covers.

I'm in need of a new one and would appreciate any recommendations.

I'm looking for a dash cover - fabric, vinyl or leather, that lays on top of the dash and is held in place by velcro tabs. I do not want a dash 'cap' that is glued in place.

Anyone have a dash cover they are happy with, and know where I can get one that's made for the 928?

Thanks.

My '86.5 has one that the PO bought for it. I'm not at all happy with it as it has warped and looks the part of a cheap cover up. So I'm interested as well. Actually for both my cars as I don't want the same thing happening to my well preserved dash and pod in the '86. I thought Jager was researching a slip on leather cover? Anyone?

I spoke with Paul Jager - his leather dash covers are still in development.

Maybe ready for market in a couple months.

I installed a plastic cap on my old 84. Came out great looking. Not sure how it stood the test of time though.
I have a black carpet style on my 85 (just to protect the perfect dash) and it looks lame. I take it off when in public

p.s. Randy, I have a Sh**load of black leather, about 7-8 full hides if you'd like to try one of your own.

There are a few select people in the Detroit area that are working on having leather covers made. One of us will keep Rennlist posted as soon as the covers are finished.

Randy,

JC Whitney has the covers from the cheap to the exotic. I would stay away from the cheap as you get what you pay for in this case. They do have some good covers that are made to fit the 928.

Yep, that's where I got the cheap one for the euro. BTW they also carry hatch struts for the 928's. Everything else they carry is for SUV's, Jeeps or ricer burners.

Apparently, Jerry O got a really nice one that he loves. Maybe you can find it by searching by his user name. All I remember is that he got it through Ebay.

Wasn't someone offering covers made out of leather or vinyl some time ago? I would think they catch less dust and are easier to keep clean...

Thanks folks, I'll check out those leads.

I'm almost tempted to take my existing tired dash cover to my upholstery guy and have him make me one in matching leather.

Thanks for the kind offer Scott, but black won't be a good match for my interior.

Randy, Nicole is right. Mine was from ebay and only $25 - $30. They even sent me samples of 10 different ones before I bought it. It sticks on with velcro and I think actually improves the look. The best thing is it reduces the heat on the dash and protects it also. I also have a few small cracks that I no longer have to look at

Make sure it matches up with your dash as they are different. Also, I liked the velour rather than just the carpet one.

Does anyone have experience with the rigid dash caps that you can get from 928 Int'l? - Ruf

OK Jerry, thanks.

I ordered a velour type from JC Whitney yesterday, after my upholstery guy recommended against making one from matching vinyl or leather due to potential shrinkage and curling problems.

I'm looking forward to what Jager comes up with as an alternative to the velour/carpet dash cover.

Hi Randy--

I'm a little late into the discussion, but... I ordered one from a local vendor at a local community college parking lot swap-meet. Less than $20. Velour in black to match the dash color. Looks just like the one in Jerry's picture.

I have a similar one in my Explorer that needs to be replaced after a dozen years of faithful service. I pulled it off last year to clean it (first time...) and all the foam backing shredded off. So more to clean up. Upside is that the plastic dash looks like new after more than a decade. I'm hoping that I get the same service and protection from the one I got for the 928 over five years ago now.

Cheers!
