Default Hatch release motor doesnt return to rest

I did a search and couldn't find anything on this. My hatch release opens the hatch perfectly but as soon as I release the button the motor stops, it doesn't return to the rest position. So if I don't hold the switch the right amount of time the motor stays in the released position and the hatch won't latch shut. So then I go back and pull the switch for a second or two and then I can properly close it.

Is this something in the motor that can be repaired?

I forgot your Year Model, Check fuse #24 if 87-89, or #25 if later.

Cheers,

Dave

It's an 88. So that fuse just operates the return to rest circuit?

Correct, plus your interior lights may be out and most likely blew the fuse. I am assuming your already checked #26 which is main fuse for Hatch release.

Cheers,

Dave

Ok thanks Dave I will check it out. Interior lights work normally including the delay, however they don't turn on when the hatch is opened up.

Most likely #26 fuse, I think I had it backwards in my head.

Check the pin switch on the bottom of the lower hatch lock receiver and the 2 pin connector on the harness to resolve the other issue.

The fuse in question is rated at just 1 amp - hard to find that fuse.

Checked my ce panel and that fuse was missing! I happened to have a 1a fuse from when I had my previous 928, plugged it in and voila the motor returned. Thanks for the help, I didn't think of the fuse panel being an issue because the hatch actually worked!

Gosh, that was easy. I've avoided dealing with the same problem. I still need to overcome my CE panel phobia - I've owned my car 18 months without opening it.
