Default Need a new gas pedal?

OK now, my gas pedal is really wobbly and tends to "catch" when I try to depress it. It's like the plastic part that grabs the metal lever underneath is somehow broken. Is this a common thing? Do I need to buy a new gas pedal, as my shop has said? Or is there some simple fix I can't find?

If you look at the back of the pedal you'll probably find that the socket moulded into the upper part, that the ball of the linkage pushes into, is cracked and/or worn. Only a new pedal, or a used one without that issue, will fix the problem. Check a used one carefully. Lack of lubrication or grit accumulation accelerates wear.

Edit: Checked new prices online and they're cheap. If it was me I'd go for a new one.
