So I've spent quite a bit of time and choosing my upgrades to my 928. I've always wanted to do the red on the upper parts of the taillights because I think it updates the car.
Yup! Good work, Sterling.
IMHO, it's especially effective on certain colors (e.g., red cars) where the amber just clashes with the car.
If so, make sure the blinker is still bright enough. I once followed a fellow rennlister who had painted his tail lights, and I could barely see the blinker during the day.
I shaved the embossed letters and symbols and used tinting film on mine. Depending on the light conditions, some amber shows through:
I believe Jim Mayzurk was the first to go 'all red' on his rear lights. I liked his so much, I did it on several of my black S4's and my GTS. I used a few thin layers of Testor candy apple red and hot rod red spray for mine, masking everything but the yellow. Easy to do, and to my eye, looks much better. But, as the 'original 928 OC Treasurer' used to say: YMMV!!
