928 seat removal problem
I am trying to remove the electrically operated seats from a wrecked 1986.5 928 and am unable to use the electrical connections to do so (all fuses and relays have been removed from the car), thus left with only a manual removal option. Checking the shop manual, there is supposed to be a lever under the seat which allows you to over ride the electrical system and move the seat back and forth by hand. Can't find the lever as depicted. Any one have any ideas on what to do?

There is no lever.
There is a hex head socket cap bolt (Allen head) under the plastic cover below the front edge of the seats.
Once the cover is removed you can access the bolt, using a Allen wrench you will be able to move the seat forward and rearward manually.

my seats in my 928 where unable to move forward and back... only recline.. i had the manual option lever, on the left track under the seats.... nothing moved... so i cut the cushion cover off and moved foam out of the way to access the philipis screw up front and the rear bolts to un mount them... what a pain in the butt...

If the gear is stripped, you can still move the seat forward and back to access the bolts.
Pull the plastic cover piece from the front. Unclip the drive cable housings from the motor (both sides). You can then turn the cables to spin the jackscrews to move the seat back and forth.
Make sure the cables are turned simultaneously or one side will move more than the other and the seat will bind up.
A cordless drill will work for the one side. It won't work as well on the other side because that one turns backwards and the drill chuck will loosen up (which side depends on which way you want to move the seat).
I ended up using a drill on the left side and a pair of smooth jawed Vise-Grips on the right. Spin it a bit with the drill, catch up and a bit more with the Vise-Grips. Repeat until the seat is moved enough. In my case, it was all the way back and I needed to move it up to access the rear bolts.
