Welcome to the shark tank. I also have a white '88 S4 bought in Austin where I was living before! Make sure to connect up with James and the local 928ers there if you haven't already. Great group of guys and some really knowledgeable people.

Thank you guys for all the replies. To answer some of the questions. The PO did not have any service records for the car and it also has had the speedometer replaced, so there is no way to know what the exact miles are. The price reflected these deficiencies. I took a chance buying this 928 sight unseen , but am quite happy with what I got. The leather seats and interior trim are in good shape with very little wear. Unfortunately there a few cracks in the dash and the car currently has a cracked windshield as well. I have a new windshield on its way to me, so that should be replaced in a few days. The engine and transmission are running strong, but do have minor issues as well. I found that the valve covers have a minor oil leak and the plastic automatic transmission fluid reservoir also has a minor leak. Nothing major in my book, but things I will have to take care of in the near future. As far as the common problems that I have been informed of, the timing belt and fuel lines look good and the PO stated that he had changed them about a year ago. I also checked the thrust bearing yesterday and it looks to be aligned properly as well.

I will not be able to make it to the spring fling this year, but do hope to make it to the Marble Falls gathering later this year. I have been introduced to James by Roger and will be making it out to the Austin 928 gatherings this spring. Hope to see some of you there.

Congrats on the beautiful new '88, only had mine 3 months and just started driving her this week (there was a lot of "deferred" maintenance to catch up on). Great advice and a wealth of knowledge available on this forum. Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum! I've also got an 88 S4, and I love driving it. On the transmission leak, there is a rubber hose that runs from the top of the plastic reservoir to the side of the transmission case. Mine was swollen and leaking from the top of the plastic reservoir. A replacement hose that is not affected by ATF fixed the leak......

Do not miss the 3rd Coast Gathering and target having your car performing well then. I've gone to two of them since buying my 928 and it is now only 3rd behind Christmas and Thanksgiving in calendar importance.

If you need any professional help on your car I highly recommend Sean Ratts here in Denton. I don't think there is a better 928 mechanic in TX and he's also a great guy. http://www.928docs.com/index.php Sean teams with Roger Tyson, another great guy a few miles away, who is incredible at providing 928 parts. www.928docs.com/index.php One result of this pairing is that 928 owners who live in TX consider themselves very lucky!

There is an unusually large cluster of 928 owners in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Denton metroplex. You can probably get assistance if you come up here to use Sean's services.

Welcome to the world of 928 ownership. Hope it delights you as it has me.

Welcome Dennis! Many knowledgeable owners in your area, and Sean and Roger are a great combo to have nearby.
