On the way to the shop for a recent repair on our 1980 928, our exhaust broke in half and started dragging on the road. I've replaced exhausts on other cars before and it was pretty easy, so I asked the shop to just get rid of all the rusty bolts and leave the pipe open so I could bolt on a cat-back system from Borla when I got the car back.

They did so, and I was going over my parts list today to perform the install, but I'm missing a piece that bolts the back of the exhaust to the car and have searched the repair manual as well as the usual websites and can't seem to find a list of parts with numbers.

Here's the picture from Borla's installation guide:


Notice near the back, there is a small clamp (not sure what to call this) that bolts the muffler onto the car. I remember seeing a small U-shaped part when looking at the exhaust before, but the shop removed it and I don't have a spare.

The 928 repair manual doesn't list out any of the bolts/parts here that I can tell under the 'replacing the exhaust' guide.

Can anyone help me figure out what part I need? Would like to order one or source locally so I can drive with a full exhaust system asap

 

The picture you show doesn't look like it came from the Pcar part document that I have, but mine isn't for your MY. It might be available in the tech section here, I think that is where I got mine.

I would call 928 International 714-632-9288 or Roger Tyson 817-430-2688. They will tell you what you need and I bet they have it in stock, probably new or used.

The picture is from the Borla install guide. Here's the one from my Porsche repair manual under section 26 (Exhaust Systems) section:



Usually these diagrams show each of the screws/bolts needed in the assembly but this one doesn't seem to. It just says 're-use existing fasteners if possible.'

I'll give Roger a call on Monday if I can't find what I need. Was hoping it might be something I could source from Ace hardware today or at least find a temporary solution
