The harness on my S3 was routed behind the left TB cover when I bought the car as well, didn't know that wasn't factory until I looked at the instructions for the TB job.

Edit: Oh I guess it is!

How could a weather pack replace the 14 pin connector?

Not sure what the OP is asking for here.

He's going about it as cheaply as possible. These connectors he wants to use are $5.00 -$10.00 instead of the $50 for the 14 pin connector.

My reason for using something other than the OE 14 pin connector would be for ease of fabrication. The product you shared does not fit that criteria:/

What could be easier than crimping 10 wires, inserting them in to two 5 pin connectors and zip tying them to the factory mount?

Paying you to do it, would make it easier.

I replaced my 14-pin with one 6 pin and one 4 pin weather pack.
Much better connector than the old open 14-pin, especially in the tropics.
Nobody looking for 100% original anyway in Thailand.
I'm also changing all other bad connectors to weather pack.

Thanks Anders,
I am not only looking for a more economical alternative, but this forum has a history of building better mouse traps.
Being an Aircraft Wiring Quality Specialist for DOD/USN, not everything has to be hard or $$$.
Mainly looking for maintainability, and not ugly..haha
Currently finishing building a new front of engine harness. 14 pin has been de-soldered and is in good condition.
Below is a fairly complete kit for $50.00

The crimp tool is a whopping $30 in Amazon....yet I see people all the time using the wrong crimp tools, pliers, vice grips etc... If not done properly, it gets really complicated down the road when stuff starts to short out.

The Delphi Weatherpacks are a great product. I just rewired my Volvo 740 engine harness this past week to eliminate some fuel injector problems. Also used them for my race car harness. Although, you may have to use a couple weatherpacks to replace one 14 pin connector. Make sure you get the correct crimping tool and solder each connection for 100% reliability.

Thanks Lloyd,
Here is one of the crimp tools that I have.

S & G Tool Aid 18960 Quick Change Ratcheting Terminal Crimping Kit

This will accomplish most needs (insulated and non) up to 8 awg to include terminals and wires sizes from the euro standard up to 8.36 mm2.

reliable and reasonable.

I may change my 14 pin out to the weather Pac next year when I put the new motor in. I will see how feasible it is to build into the harness the extra wire needed at the 14 Pin side.

the correct crimp tool is the best way to go. i would not solder the 14 pin connections AND crimp. there is a reason aircraft dont solder joints. vibration , especially on the unsupported pig tail on a weather pack could cause it to crack at the back end of the pin.
