Its an early '87.. first registered 7 Jan '87 (lookup using number plate), and it probably has a squirter block engine and definitely has a flip up wing. VIN is probably around #840600 if I had to guess.
(my '87, #841022 was first registered 17 March '87 and had the third-last 5-speed squirter block)

Wow, looks like some of the daily drivers we see here in MI, that salt really eats up the metal!
They will learn the in's and outs of a 928 doing that rusty bucket, wish I could hear them ##@#$% when replacing the Rear shocks

+928!
Wonder too how much this resto will cost the actual owner.
We'll probably never know but all this done at Porsche something close to 100K I would guess...

If I recall correctly (now that I think about it) the Cassis red metallic 80D was not available (well at least as a standard colour) post MY88. So by deduction this car is either an MY87 or MY88. I am guessing MY87. The other give away is the speedometer and other instruments in the pod arei different from the MY89 on-wards compared to the MY87 & 88. So betting this is an MY87.

Cassisrot. Don't be INSANE. There is no way that color will be changed. Same with the interior. The only addition/modification I can consider would be silent soundproofing under the chassis and maybe a decent stereo with upgraded speakers. I might ditch the sunroof, and rub strips(if I had them). But there's very little to improve on there.

I don't do facebook, therefore do not have why this car is being restored. After reading James's post above, guessing this particular 928 has sentimental value. A pristine, low mileage S4/GT/GTS can be had for less. T

The motivation for doing this is as part of what's become a regular programme/competition organised by Porsche GB for dealerships to pick a vehicle to restore. Been running for at least a couple of years, and supports the renewed emphasis on having a Classic brand for parts/service/restoration. As well as acting as focus for dealer publicity, they get to take part in events organised/paid for at country level (eg at the NEC Classic show last year, Porsche had a big space showing off cars restored by at least 6 or so dealerships). OPCs have had a pretty free hand in choosing which model to restore - I've seen everything from 924 to 911 Targa
