Car has 78k miles on it and has never had any major maintenance so it would need it but has been taken care of. The car is white with tan and is an automatic.

It does have a new water pump and timing belt but that is it.

Any help is appreciated! I'm thinking of buying but trying to see if price is worth it.

With only this info, I would guess around $5-8k, but the devil is in the details.

Great shape, white with tan, 78k and nothing else done since 1990 (other than general maintenance) than mentioned above. Stock in all cases and an automatic.

What else can I provide, other than pics (its in great shape, no dash cracks, garage kept, etc) what else would you like.

I'm not looking for a Hagerty evaluation, just opinions based on the expert knowledge of this forum.

OK, low miles, we presume everything electrical is working nominally and the dash has no cracks, and paint is suitable. I'll go high 8k to low 11k then.

Yes, paint great, no cracks anywhere and electrical works. Car has been babied but that doesn't change age in general. Wanted to get a few opinions before I state what it is for sale for, trying to see if it's worth it. I had an 91 S4 so this would be a different beast all together. Also unsure if id be happy with less power than I had before.

Did not know you sold the '91. That was (is still hopefully) a very good looking car.

In the current market, with a car as you describe (presumed excellent shape driver), I'd say $12 to $15K, and plan on investing another $5K into it to catch up on the deferred stuff (timing belt/WP, PK clamp or similar for the thrust bearing preventative issue, fuel lines, plugs, wires, rotors, etc)

Just sold an 84 Euro Auto for $9k, only problem it had was a/c needed work and usual dash cracks, so I would say 8 - 11k is good range.

Any idea on value on this car after all maintenance had been performed and all back to good?

My 91S4 (with many mods) had 135k on the odometer but had over 60k in stuff that was done (paint, all new leather interior motor drop, rebuild, transmission rebuild, exhaust upgraded GT calipers and other items) and was one of the nicest cars I've ever seen. I sold it for 25k.

My concern is that when all things are done lets say I have 17k into it, how much would it be worth and are the prices rising on this model... knowing there are more desirable and powerful newer models available for not much more.. What is the benefit of having this version?

Pretty much the same as BEFORE the repairs....no one gives much credit for getting a car back into good running condition.

Exactly what Im thinking... so to buy one as an investment isn't a great idea. Buying one to keep, drive and not sell is the only reason? I fortunately didn't perform all the work on my previous car so I was able to make some money when I finally decided to sell but I don't want to buy, work on it, enjoy it then lose my *** either..

If the trend continues, the car is worth double in 7-10 years.
$7K car as-is, $11K back up and well sorted.

My estimates are based on a several month search and buying a black/black 84 S in November.

7k for 78k miles and well kept. That to me would seem like a steal, meaning the seller sold too cheap.

I'm guessing somewhere around 9k but it would be great if it was 8k. 7k seems absurd but I like it!!

I'd be fine seeing it go for $8K and think that would be a fair price. Listing price vs selling price may be the difference between our two numbers.

and since we KNOW a 928 needs $2,000 to $3,000 of work per year that is like $15,000 to $30,000 more "invested" before insurance and registration. Not exactly a good investment in terms of $$$$ even if they do happen to double again..
Also in your search you saw only ASKING prices not necessarily true selling prices and even E-bay prices do not always represent the final negotiated price.
