Default Ribbon LED 8" H4 upgrade

Looked over numerous LED threads and decided on Dave's (Davek9) 5th gen LED headlights, but I got them from Amazon for $48.99 before New Year's

.

For the 9004 to H4 plug conversion, I purchased these ceramic kit from ebay with minor assembly required (just plug in the leads into the 9004 plug).

Love them. Easy installation into my just acquired brand new Euro H4s complete assembly with headlight covers that I purchased from ebay from Portugal for $310 shipped.

Here are the pics of the installation:

Stock 8" halogens

8" halogen light

Back

Remove side support bracket screws

Deoxit the 9004 plug

Careful in pulling these from the black ball joint. These are seen broken in used headlights.

Corresponding ball

Brand new 8" H4s

Part number

Gray back cover comes off during installation of LEDs

Side bracket slides right in, but my lights did not come with washer and nut. M6-1.0 x 4 from Home Depot.

Orientation of the LED sliding into the H4 bracket as seen on the back cover.

I think this is how it should look when it is inside the housing. Front LEDs are lit on low beam with light directed up to the reflector. When high beam is used, rear LEDs are lit so that the entire reflector is used to direct light everywhere.

9004 plug with leads pushed in with a click

H4 plug end

Snaking the plugs around the assembly. Used zip ties to secure it without risking pulling leads off the plug

Spread out heat sink ribbons as best as I can.

Look at the difference!

After assembling the remaining side.

I may have misunderstood, but I believe he replaced his H5 headlights with H4s and then replaced the H4 bulb with a compatible LED replacement. If that's what he did, and if the location of the LED within the H4 reflector is the same as the standard H4 bulb, it should work.

But the LEDs are a lot brighter.

The 8" H4's have a very clean cut off when on low beam. If adjusted correctly then they should not affect oncoming drivers unless ultra exceptionally bright.

Of course high beam should not be used with approaching traffic. The OP may need to consider switching to low beam on long straights with a vehicle in the distance much sooner than they are used to avoid this issue.

When I tried to install H4 LED bulbs I could not get a clean cut off on low or a good beam pattern on high so have gone back to std H4 halogen's.

I would be interested in some shots of the lights in both modes about 20ft away from a clean wall to see how the patterns compare to what I experienced - I would still like to go the LED route if I can find a suitable bulb.

Here are the pictures taken tonight approx 15-18 ft from the garage. First pic is low beam, and second pic is high beam with fog lights on too as described by others during led installation.

May have to adjust the angle down a bit. Btw, the adjustment has to be done with covers off, because my euro h4 do not have the rear outside adjustment extender found in us dot h5.

Sorry, but I don't have a clean wall for proper beaming.

Thanks.
Looks like a good high beam patter, not so sure on the low beam.

That low beam looks like it'd be right in the rearview mirror of the guy in front of you...

It's hard to tell if he's parked on level ground. Regardless, the pattern looks like something that, properly aimed, would work well for both the driver and oncoming traffic.
