'88 S4 dash pod bulbs list anyone??
Hi Chaps,
I'm about to embark at last on upgrading the instrument cluster lights to LED as mine are basically not working. I have been chatting with Ed Scherer and also 928ntslow about the process, but Ed's excellent write up was done on an '89 and the bulbs are different.
Wondering if anyone here has a list of all the bulbs (either the original incandescent or LED replacements) in the instrument cluster for an S4? If not, then I guess I will be documenting my progress and making the list for future reference
Thanks,
Howard

Happy New Year Howard. Search is your friend and here are a few hints.
First is do a search under " Ed Scherer". Ed did a complete write up.
There are also others that will show up under "Pod illumination", "Instrument lights" or similar words

Yes, already searched and read Ed's full write up and contacted him directly. What I'm looking for is the bulb list for an 88 S4. Ed has an 89 with a different bulb arrangement.

If someone has tried this exercise before would appreciate any guidance!

I did this in the Stepson. The problem is that since LEDs have polarity, you have to know which side is the ground, and in a series of bulbs, what you think should be the power side is not necessarily correct. I, personally, am not able to figure this kind of thing out just be looking at wiring diagrams. Therefore, it entailed a lot of fit and test. Consequently, my circuit foil got seriously beat up.
Illumination, yes. Warning lights, no. Would I do it again? Hell no.

Jager has a setup that works well.
The setup is pretty much the same from 78-88.
(IT's like Bilboard illumination)
The 89's and newer were illuminated from behind like today's cars.
#74 LED's for your pod switches.
Here's how the 79 looks.. Crappy photo, but you get the idea.
BTW, no need to dim, it's not THAT bright. Pic makes it look way brighter than it is.
