I put the 85 cat and duals on my wife's 79 went on very easily....figured no way it would hurt the performance and it sounded great !! Given the temperatures that a cat operates I doubt that any cleaning will be needed.

Even the smog pump pipe connection bolts right up.

Minor bolt alignment difference on the exhauste flages, my downpipes were about a 16th out requiring some prying, minor.

Reviving this thread, I guess.

My car is an '84 "S2" Euro, that has a hackneyed system on it, either done when imported or by another owner. It's kind of hard to see in the picture below, but it appears it was factory US system from the cats forward, but behind that they've added a y-pipe and a muffler that overall I think is severely restricting the system. It's just never really felt like 310hp to me and doesn't sound like any other 928 I've heard, and that's not a good thing:

Older pic - that O2 sensor was apparently there just to plug the hole.

I'm looking for the correct system to reinstall on the car or a better one, but I'd prefer to keep the cost down. Anyone know someone or somewhere I could find one?

Hard to tell what you've got there. Check the PET but I think an '85-'65 US system from after that cat through to the outlets will work. You might need to have some custom work following the cat to remedy what you've got.
