Default First gear knock

I am positive that I read that answer to this question here recently, but I can't find it now. As I recall, what I read was that it is somewhat normal for 1st gear in my '79 5-speed to have a knock at low speeds. I can only hear this if my window is down and I am next to a wall.

Is my memory correct or was this all conjured up in a dream? Of the 3 running 928s that I have, all 3 make the same noise.

Will this cause damage or is it just annoying?
