Default Looks like I'll be out of the club soon.

About 6 months ago I bought a 78 sunroof delete, automatic that was going to be a father son project. Said son being a teen has decided that he's rather hang with his buds than with his dad. Such is life. So I placed the usual ads and now I'll see what the weekend brings. This is an amazing site and the knowledge and experience here certainly answered more than a few questions of mine. I just took a vid of it running using my phone so that I'll always have the memory of that exhaust sound.

So ... you're gonna let a teenager run your life!?

Fix the car, enjoy it, and hold it over his head when he wants to drive it.

There ya go - another life quandary resolved. (brushes hands briskly) You're very welcome.

Oh, and welcome to the the tank.

The reality of it is, a truck would serve our needs a lot more than a sports car, and it will pain me to see that little car sitting outside all winter long. Did I mention that I don't have any covered area. I've told my guys before that if I had a garage that they would only see me at mealtime lol. When I got the car it wasn't running and now it does, so I feel like I accomplished something with it. And I can say I owned a 928, I just won't tell them that I never drove it.

If you dump it, I suspect both you and your son will regret it at some point. Just sayin' :-)

All depends, is the 928 the car that you wanted?? or the car you thought that your son might get into.

My son convinced me to do the 88 as a father son deal, and then immediately dumped it on me. He then bough his first 944 and now has a second. The father son thing was a con to get me to buy a car I've always wanted. Although technically he still owns half, which has left more money for improvements.

Anyway the point is the father son thing is less important than the "is it the car that you've wanted?"

I had a friend sell a boat once, didn't think he was using it enough, thought he could use the money, I told him not to do it because he really enjoyed it when he did use it. A year latter he said he regretted selling the boat, the money went away, as all money does, and he missed his boat.

If it is the the car that you've wanted, if it puts half the smile on your face that mine does for me, then keep it, get a cover for it and enjoy it when you can, you really aren't going to get enough money for it to worry about. If it was bought as a project because it was interesting and you wanted to engage your son, sell it to someone who will enjoy it.

Do you think maybe once your son started into the project he got overwhelmed or lost?
I ask this because I spend some of my time working on my car "overwhelmed and lost"... in the beginning of a new project or repair. Then I take a step back, break the task into sensible sections, and start asking for advice and input.

It might be worth covering it up well, taking a break over the winter, and starting through some simpler "quick-fix" projects on the car to get him fired up.
Just 2 cents worth.
Good luck.

I appreciate all the great advice and thoughts from the great members of this forum. Realistically, without a shop to work on it the way that I would want to, it makes more sense to let it go to someone who will bring her back to her former glory. That buyer came by this morning and bought her. He lives close to where I am so I'm sure I'll see her on the road this summer cruising around Sidney. He has the space, the know how and is just an all round nice guy. Could not have found a better home for the 928. Now I need to bump up my search for my truck. Again, thanks to everyone here who shares their knowledge and expertise so freely. It's a great community and I'm sure you'll have a new member soon from right around this area.
