Gauge cluster problems
Well, I finally got back to trying to diagnose why my gauges are intermittent , I cleaned them with Deox. then ran 220 grit sandpaper gently into the sockets of the three connectors.. plugged them in and started the car. the tach. seemed very slow almost like it was not getting full voltage , and the amp. gauge did not work at all. then I pushed on the connectors with my hand and they started working correctly . so I narrowed the problem to the vertical connector.. My question for the group is can I use dialectric grease on these connectors. for better contact. also thinking about removing cluster and putting a clear tape under the connector contact ribbon. that would build up the connector to make a better contact if wear is the problem , has anyone dealt with this in the past and what worked for you..

Dielectric grease is an electrical insulator.
Those connectors are very fragile and I don't know if anybody has remedied the contact issues, but they are common issues.
220 paper is awfully rough for these connectors.

Problem solved, I removed the connector strip and placed a piece of 3M packaging clear tape on the plastic covering both sides this added .005 thou. thickness overall. reinstalled the contact strips. the plugs went on much tighter and all gauges are working..
