My 1st instinct is to just show up and ask for my parts back and do it myself... but I don't want to burn any bridges... but I have been dropping in regularly not asking for the work to be done but just to continue the relationship...
Sounds like you should tell them this.

May I please ask what type of machine work you needed? I am just curious. Thanks.

Sounds like some cool upgrades are going on with you!

I know that at the machine shop I am using that they have tons of work and basically no skilled machinists to help them catch up.

My heads sat quietly on a pallet at the shop from late August until just last Friday when they finally were able to get to them. Tough call, knowing what to do... Since I am so slow myself, it didn't seem to matter in my case because I still have tons of stuff to do before the engine goes back in.

I imagine it would be really hard to deal with if the shop was actually the thing that was keeping me from getting finished.

I really hope it works out for you promptly.

Rather than invest in them, invest in Sterling. Buy what you need and do it better yourself.

if that shop doesn't work out, sounds like it will though. You might want to see if you can find any Maker Spaces in your area. They usually have all kinds of common and modern machining/tooling/3d printers/plotters/lasers/welders/cutters/etc. and the like to use. You pay a monthly membership then get trained/qualified on something then sign up and use it for what you want. It's kind of like a machine shop club. Kinda fills the gap on small jobs without purchasing the equipment as long as you don't mind doing it yourself. Most of the equipment is donated.

I have been a machinist for 20 years and have worked from job shop to international corporations. Your realationship with your customers no matter the amount of work, is the most important thing. Every job shop, such as you describe will have machinists they can detach for these type of jobs. You are not being unreasonable, they are not doing the work because you are insignificant to them. Find another shop, preferably one that deals with custom auto work. Never put up with this, if they want your business they will do the work. Might I ask what you are having done?

Seems excessive. My Shop will order whatever I want and add 10%. They warranty the parts. I feel like that's a fair deal.
