Default Ignition switch issue?

I have an intermittent issue that seemed to disappear after I cleaned up some of my grounds and connections, but now it keeps coming back. When I turn the key to ignition, sometimes I don't get the bulb check. It's as if the computer thinks the engine is running. The oil pressure gauge shows zero and I get the warning and flashing ! light on the dash (because of course there's no oil pressure with the engine not running). Sometimes I get the opposite. The engine is running, but all the dash lights come on. Although that condition usually only appears for a split second. Doesn't seem to affect how the engine runs.

I'm not sure it's an ignition switch issue, because I don't seem to be able to get the bulb check by holding the key in between accessory and ignition. Seems I have to start the car and drive around a while before I can get the bulb check to appear.

1986.0 US car. Thanks for any advice.

if all the warning lights come on after engine start,
it points to a charging system issue,
usually the brushes are worn in the regulator.

NOTE if you replace the regulator only use Bosch parts

Thanks. Cheap regulators do seem like a bad idea with a 30 year old ECU. Is the other issue I have unheard of? Lights all off when the ignition is on and engine is not running? I've only put about 350 miles on this car, so it wouldn't surprise me if there's multiple issues.

Terminals and grounds cleaned up. CE refurb seemed like overkill, since this is my only remaining electrical problem. But I may have to take that on, if a new regulator doesn't correct it.

If the alternator is bad it can truncate the bulb check. Check the alternator.
