This is another area I do not disagree with. There is no advantage to a higher intake air temperature and a byproduct of boost is heat.

Sure you can "get away with it" mostly due to the knock sensors on an S4. Anyone thinking of boosting an earlier car without such a safeguard I feel is crazy to skip the IC.

A low boost setup can loose valuable pressure from an intercoolers. You can get away with not having an intercoolers at 6psi. I had mine for 10 years and the only time I had a problem was when one injector slowly failed, leaning out the cylinder and burning the fire ring of the head gasket. Many other engines get away without an IC with 6psi or less, ours are no different.

Default Low level boost

No need for an intercooler if running at 6lbs. I have checked with numerous resources and the recommendation was not to add the intercooler and potentially introduce other issues. Lastly our cars do not have the most room in the engine bay thus no intercooler helps. I had fabricated another charge tube and also installed an air straightener in the MAF.
Make sure your engine and all systems are up for boost and can handle the nominal amount of boost (6lbs). Utilizing a Sharktuner to maintain the timing within reason and control knocks along with proper fuel mapping and your car would run as well as mine does.

Very happy with the VCB SC, tune supplied by Jim Correnman and Sharktuner, and car originally built by Greg Brown. No issues.

You have a picture of the air straightener?

Default Cost of Charge Tube upgrade

Hi MJ,
These are approximate costs.

Charge Tube - ~$400 (with the blow off valve you provide)

Air Separator - ~$300

Spacers - ~$75

These are all rough figures. I don't remember the exact amounts at this point. Definitely makes a difference in fitment and reliability.

Most vehicles don't need an intercooler at 6 psi is correct, but do not confuse it for most vehicles don't need remapping/tuning with 6 psi!!!

The 87+ cars leave little timing on the table from the factory and therefor are not acceptable to just slap on 6psi and think it is going to live long.

To answer Imre's question regarding the vacuum pump, the factory ports (valve cover) are not large enough to properly evacuate the crankcase vapors. This then causes a slight pressure in the crankcase which can lead to more oil past the rings which lowers your octane and makes you more prone to detonation. Where as the pump aids in ring seal and overcomes there being any possible pressure inside the case.
