Default Remote hatch latch

My '83 was built with no remote hatch opener. Believe it or not, a human must stand there and turn a key.

I bought the recommended VW actuator, and wonder where I can get a remote-able latch assembly.

Thanks!

I'd try 928 International and see what they have.

I'd rather do that at a pick 'n pull, if I can find a 928.

Do I need both TOP and BOTTOM assemblies?

Mmm, I thought every model year had the remote hatch switch. There's no round switch on the rail next to the driver seat?

There's a potentiometer there, marked as a fader for the rear speakers (it does not work).

Tomorrow I'll fish wires back to the latch area, with fused 12V to a guarded switch next to that fader control. When I find a latch assembly, bingo!

My '82 does not. I thought I read that it didn't become standard until '84...

Hi, I own a 1980 928S which was also lacking the Remote switch for the hatch.
I bought the panels at left and right next to the front seats with both a pull **** to unlock the hatch. Also needed is an electric motor , same as for the central locking on the doors.

Give me your email address and will mail you the electric scheme for adding the remote hatch system together with some pictures.

It works perfect in my Car and is very handy.

We've been down this rabbit hole before:

Yes '84 was when they started, after 84 all sill panels have the hole in the panel (if not in the carpeting). You can just drill a hole in an earlier panel - but USA cars will have unused hole for the headlight adjuster available anyway. VW motor is the way to go. All you need is the bottom hatch latch part.

Hi Henry,
You have the VW actuator. 928 International has a used rear hatch receiver for $60.

http://shop.928intl.com/Used-Rear-Ha...28-512-055-20/

I rigged the metal arm of the hatch receiver to hook on the VW actuator. When it pulls, it will release the hatch. It is quite fiddly, but I got it to work. Then you just need to get an always hot switched 12V+ to supply actuator. Since I believe your receiver has a bad inner lining, the cost of the new one is offset by not having to purchase a new lining.
Good luck,
Dave

Perfect!
Order placed.
VW actuator tested.
Car wiring is complete
Switched 12V to the latch area

I played the fiddle 70 years ago, so should have no problem.

Thank you for the help.
