Default steering wheel spacer - tall driver

having read others comments about difficulty fitting in the 928 cabin i was reluctantly beginning to admit that i too found the seating position awkward! it seemed the only way i could make it work was to angle the seat base right back, reclining the seat and then bring the whole assembly forward so i could reach the wheel but cramping my legroom in the process.

i read a thread a while back where someone suggested 'if only the wheel extended out a couple of inches' and i started thinking... never realising that the answer was as simple as visiting a local auto-accesories outlet and voila! 2 inch steering wheel spacer fitted and much improved driving position. one minor niggle is that its not so close to the indicator stalk, otherwise.. what do you think?

I'm assuming that won't work with the factory steering wheel?

correct, that is a momo wheel along with the momo steering bose (ahead of the spacer). the smaller wheel makes a lovely modification too!

Nice job!

I added the MoMo spacer, but it's only about a 3/4 inch change.

Here's mine.

Cool factory spacer

I presume you know about the factory spacer. I have one on my '86 and it works well, but does require a bit longer reach to the stalks.

Anyone who has a part number for the stock spacer and/or knows if it fits an airbag wheel?

My car came with the factory 1" spacer as the original owner was 6'4"; he also ordered the sunroof delete, too. I like them both!

Hey Joe, nice setup! When are you going to dyno your car?

Oil cooler going in the nose in the next few weeks, before the drive to Sharktoberfest. Engine oil runs a little too hot, although water temp is fine. We may dyno then or at the end of October. Still sorting out a few small issues.. lst week added high volume Bosch fuel pump to ensure we don't go lean.

What temps are you running on both on a 'typical' day?

We want to install digital water, oil, and tranny temp gauges so that we know exactly what those temps are on a 'typical' day.

Did the new fuel pump help out? What pressure are you running at idle and WOT?

I'm glad to know your car seems to run fine otherwise!

Oil temp stays below 210 in around town driving, but slowly creeps to 260 at freeway speeds. Once it gets there water temp is 195 and the thermostat opens. Once the thermostat opens, oil temp will drop down to 210, then it slowly creeps back up and cycles again. The engine is freshly rebuilt, bottom and top, so it may be still a little tight. 2000 miles on the motor now.

Fuel pump doesn't seem to have made a difference with the car seeming to shut down at around 5600 rpm. Tweeking on the dyno may be the only way to see what's going on. Fuel pressure at idle is around 24. The Vortech pressure regulator is installed, which may need some adjustment. Injectors are 30's.

Below are my gauges, measuring fuel/air ratio, fuel pressure, boost, tranny oil temp, engine oil temp, air temp before SC, and air temp after intercooler.

The 930 wheel you can get from AJUSA has an optional spacer that not only pushes the wheel out, but moves it up off your lap too. I put it on my car and man what a difference. I highly recommend it. I posted a detailed set of installation instructions a while back that seem to have passed muster with some of the other folkeshere. Take a look through the search records.

I had the same problem and solved it by getting a wheel that is dished. By that I mean with the rim raised about an inch or so above the center. It works great.

Cheers
