to remove the side trims use a paint stick and tap one end with a mallet the other end is placed on the edge of the trim and gently work off from the bottom up to the top.

To remove the top I suggest to tape some sheet cardboard under the trim edge,
This will protect the glass,
then use an L tool with a L hook tool to release the clips while you gently pry upwards with the L tool.
NOTE work a wide area as you may damage the trim permanently .

I used the plastic wedge like tools that windshield/glass installers use. They are tapered on both ends and made of hard plastic, and I just worked along the edge of the body gentle prying the molding upward and outward. Had all three pieces out in a matter of a few minutes, starting with the side pieces first. Just work slowly and don't force anything, or pull up on the molding pieces as you work. Let the tools slowly work the moldings out of the clips. No pulling allowed. You can get these tools at any glass repair shop...and they come in handy for about a bazillion other odd jobs, inside and outside.

Good luck,

Brian.

Although I don't have personal experience, I've read quite a few threads on this emphasizing what Brian & Stan state above. Work slowly and deliberately. Damage is very possible if you don't.

I'm thinking he's probably planning on painting them. Mine were sand blasted from small rocks and such. Painting made them look nice again.

Send a PM to JoeJoe, he took a video of Gabriel removing the trim on one of the windshields he replaced at Sharktoberfest.

If you are very careful and use body shop tape and SEM or Wurth trim paint you can repaint them without taking them off.

Bump - I have a side trim piece off (passenger side). When windshield was replaced recently, the guy said he glued the trim pieces back on. The bottom edge is bowing out and coming off the channel; so I gently pulled it off, and tried to straighten it some. How does it go back on and stay on? Glue? Clips?

And pictures or videos of install would be most welcome.

There are supposed to be black plastic clips that fit over the rib the side trim slides on to. They are about 4 mm x 7mm and U shaped. Each leg of the U is a little thinner than a credit card. I would try to reproduce them or maybe try some really thin double sided grey auto trim tape.
