I went to look at a parts 928 today, but 10 feet away was a much better looking '78 just waiting to be saved. Long story short, I bought the '78. On the drive home I asked my dad, who was along for the ride, to check the title for the serial number, it is 0089! The car is a US spec 5-speed with a nearly perfect body, only the bumpers show any distortion.
There is some definate issues including a fuel delivery problem but it appears to just be a kink in the intake hose going to the pump. I'll give it a closer look in the morning and maybe see if it will start on Sunday.
Sorry for the lack of pictures, for some reason they aren't uploading from my ipad. I'll get some posted asap.

Awesome! What a great find. Something similar happened to me recently. Went looking for parts and found another project to work on! LOL. I think there is a term called "Porsche Poor" or something like that. If I keep buying cars, I will never have money for parts! LOL.

A few more pictures. Dug into it a bit today and found that the fuel hose was kinked and not proper fuel hose. I'm guessing that this caused the pump to burn out so time to order a pump.

Nice find. My 78 ended up in my lap the same way, went to look at a 78 parts car that I thought I'd make into a track car...and the guy opened the garage to show me his "other" 78 for sale. Came home with both of them.
Anyhow...
Great start to a restoration. Be careful starting that baby up, your fuel lines on the passenger side of the engine compartment are probably in need of replacement, mine are, and I don't even start it anymore.
Good luck, and enjoy the journey. Take your time, be patient and stick with it...and you will have something very special when you are done.
Brian.

BTW that right sided intake tube is original and "gold" - treat it as such...looks like possibly the other one is in the passenger footwell. Same with your early style vents.
