'78 Euro AC delete and other questions...
I have started to remove my radiator to fix the end tank leak. Meanwhile I discovered have some things that raise a couple of questions.
1) I found a air pump air filter canister, that is attached to nothing. My understanding was that the air pump was for US models only ???
2) My car has an electric fan in front of the AC condenser and no indication of ever having had an engine driven fan... is this normal?
3) I knew that the A/C didn't work, which doesn't bother me... but discovered that the compressor is missing. Given that I have no intention of reactivating the A/C I am thinking of removing the condenser, compressor mount and anything else that is easily accessible. Seems to me that removing the condenser should improve the airflow to the radiator (and make it easier to remove leaves and other debris from the front of the rad). Is there any reason that this would cause a problem?
Thanks in advance.

There's really no mechanical fan on the engine? There must be no belt to the air pump. That one goes around the crank, fan and air pump.
I've heard of people just relying on the secondary AC fan to cool the radiator. That might work in Quebec but it'd never work in real heat and stop-and-go traffic.
I'd suggest putting one on. No rush, apparently, as it's working.

You could forget about the engine driven fan and aux fan and install the FFDynamics or similar aftermarket electric fan.
It is super simple to install, not too expensive (less than $300 on ebay) and works beyond great.
No overheating or even hi temps in Houston stop n go traffic in summer with the AC blowing.
In fact with a 928 MS rad and the electric fan, it is too cool sometimes. I had to install a variable resistor to easily turn up or down when the fan comes on.
The kit has a potentiometer but it is difficult to access to do small adjustments.

FFDynamics fan works great for me so far. Take a look at a thread I had going on mine. Not the best detail but might help in your install. Nice and quiet too. Removed my air pump system and capped the rear head holes too, another belt to not worry about.

An electric fan will work fine, too. The tricky part is getting the thermal switch set right so it's not running when not needed.
If it was my car, I'd do the mechanical fan in December when 928 International has traditionally done a 1/2 price sale on used parts.
