Is the fan speed switch suppose to illuminate?
I have an extra fiber optic lead with no home and right now I have no illumination of the fan speed **** but can't see where a fiber optic wire might go into the switch assembly.

There are two larger diameter fiber cables that are already inserted into an opening on the top and bottom of the housing above and below the switch housing. I do have illumination of the face and fan speed indications as well as illumination of the slider ***** via the fiber cables that go into the back of those switches but nothing inside the fan speed **** itself.

On the early cars, one fiberoptic strand goes to the center vent to illuminate the tiny defrost icon. At least on my '80 it had it. Facing the center vent, the defrost icon is in the upper right corner. It has a white plastic sleeve in the back where the fiberoptic strand enters. If I can find my center vent from the '80 I'll post it. Not sure about the '79 model though.
