From underneath, make sure trans shifter cable is not hung up. Check its attachment at the Range Selector on the L side of the transmission. See pg 22 of the attachment pdf.

Thank you MainePorsche. I plan to tackle that next after I get this shark to idle.

Thank you Michael, but I can't get it to idle. I put a new MAF and it cranks but I can't get it to fire up.

Yes, that would be the thing to do. Be sure you have a good level of ATF when you get there. Ignition monitor sounds like a thing to look at for the non firing.

Bob you mentioned looking at the green/red LED lights next to the LH; is it right underneath? I had someone open the switch and crank the car while I stuck my head right in there in front of the LH but no LED lights came on.

Bob; I looked all over while trying to start the car and I didn't see any lights on. Yet I can't get the car to fire up.

OK guys....I finally got my 928 started. ALRIGHT! Turned out to be the LH. Of course I couldn't hear the injectors clicking cause I was working by myself and I couldn't hear them making noise from inside the car. I had ordered a new refurbished MAF from 928International thinking that's what it was. Then I purchased a refurbished LH from Kuhn...installed it and she started right up. Of course I had a lot of prep before starting her up. I finally got her in the air for a full inspection:

Before starting her up I changed oil filter, oil and new Bosch Platinum plugs. Installed the new LH and drove her to the lift. I did find oil inside the plug shafts even thou there are no leaks outside the engine. Bought a nifty little pump that worked beautifully draining the oil before removing the plugs. I've read here that its a sort of common problem that I'll address later on:

I also found that my fuel pump turns on and stays on right from the moment I turn the key....will need to address this issue...it's got a heavy fuel smell...well; I'll be replacing all fuel lines, components and clean the tank...will be checking all fuses and relays...bought new pump and in-tank pump for later installation;

Also found the transmission leaking all over:

Of course I had to do something quickly about the chrome wheels. Had them de-chrome and powder coated...just need to buy the inserts:

Looking good, glad you are making some headway.

What did you find to correct the no shifting issue?

Brian.

hr,
You probably want to get rid of those platinum plugs. 928s do not like platinum plugs. Just use good old copper plugs from Bosch. Platinum plugs can cause all kinds of weird running conditions.

Use the search function. It will help you in your journey.

When I first got it I couldn't take it our of parking....stupid me didn't notice the emergency brake was on...

I do have to bring down the transmission and send it for a complete rebuild. It slips on every gear and reverse doesn't engage....expected, but I'm doing it right.

Will do. I just had a set there and thought of using it.

BTW...I like the wheels on your 928. I've thought about getting a set when the time comes. How's the fitment?

IMHO get the trans checked out before you pull it, its a Mercedes made unit . They are controlled with pressure and vacuum .
