On investigating my non working horn I found this wire in the front right wing, it was just dangling and not connected to anything. My thought are its the outside temp sensor for the ac BUT I'm not sure as my UK 1980 928 dosnt have auto a/c control just manual. also isn't it on the wrong side for that?
Looks like the temp sensor connector, but it should be under the left wing. Your whole sensor seems to be missing on the left - a short piece of metal tube with the sensor in it, and spliced into the alternator cooling hose, screwed onto the left side splash shield (very bad idea). Is there a similar lead on the left at all?

Alan, if you knew -anything- about the climate in GB....
Getting spoiled by the dry heat in Phoenix, where it's too darn hot for anything to actually rust?
Yes Phoenix keeps things pristine - if toasty... I suspect that is partly related to salt on the roads. Nasty thing they used to do (maybe still do) in wintertime. I always suspected the new car dealers gave away mountains of salt for free...
Yes they still salt the roads in winter
No lead on the other side at all where I would expect to find it.
I have a Manual hvac ( no automatic ac control) so didn't think I needed this outside sensor as there isn't an inside one? I'm sure someone will correct me
I would say as you have a manual HVAC Head unit it not required to know what the Temp is, right?
As for the outside Temp wire, it is part of the Main under dash wire harness, so it may have been run as a "standard" job just like the fan wiring for towing or the rear Fog lights.

Well I just found this wire not connected to anything tucked away under the pod! could this be the wiring to the inside temp sensor? if so I guess I have a wiring loom from a 81 car
