In analyzing my CE panel wiring, I found one smoked wire. It seems totally confined to the fog lamps, without collateral damage. I need to replace the wire attaching the JK connector and the fog lamp relay. Are these female spade connectors captured on the back of the CE panel male spade connectors? Do I need an extraction tool to remove that wire ?
Removing this wire from the back of the relay socket looks even more challenging. There must be a de-insertion tool to free the female spade from the retainers in the back of the socket?
I guess in general, is there a guide for how to replace wires from the back of the CE panel?
I'm even thinking about cutting off the old wire and soldering a new wire onto the still in-place spades. I am stumped how to pull these female spades off.
the ones on the relay blocks are captured, you just find th little tab/barb, and pop it out. the one on the back of the blue connector just is pulled off. nothing special.
In looking at your pic, are those plastic prongs (for lack of a better word) on the side of the wire which the female connector is seated in?
If so, maybe you need to push the female connector forward a bit, then use a flat screw driver to pry the plastic towards the frame and then pop the connector out toward the back (the visible side of your picture).
I've also used McBoob's suggestion on similar female connectors, such as the ones at the end of the window switch wiring, of using a flat screwdriver to push the tang in (either on the top or bottom of the connector, depending on orientation) and then pull the connector out.
at the other end of the line I would check the routing of the headlamp harnesses at just under the headlamps where the metal crimp tab is holding the harness,
NOTE if the wire is pulled tight then the tab will eventually wear through the wire harness and short it out and or cut the wires.
SO put the headlamps up then use a ziptie to secure the harness to the metal tab and make sure there is some free play in the wires and dont make the zip tie very tight.
NOTE the other possibility on shorting is if the fog/ driving lamp harness has been messed with under the front bumper,
then the wires could have been installed improperly,
these are 4 prong male plug connectors and the individual wires plug onto them
the ones on the relay blocks are captured, you just find th little tab/barb, and pop it out.
. I see... I'll search for the barb better...

Ok... I did pull on the female spade(not the wire) quite hard to no avail. I did notice that the female spades have a tiny barb right in the middle that fits in the tiny hole in the male spade . Does this impede pulling off the female spade on the blue connector ?
