Default Rough Runnings Saga Continues

I was having issues with my 88 S4. I had a definite ignition miss and the engine just would not idle. I tracked down my issues to a bad coil to distributor wire and my tempII sensor was not giving me the correct resistance. So both of those have been replaced, and now I have another r frustrating issue.

I have a terrible hesitation when I give the car gas. There is just no response for about a second or so, and then the engine will rev up and it runs pretty well once it hits 2500 rpms.

I have replaced my vacuum lines about 2 years ago, but still think I may have a vacuum leak somewhere. I did check my dampers since these were one of the few things I did not replace, but they hold a vacuum well.

Just wondering what the potential causes of this hesitation might be. What should I be looking for ???

Well took the car out for a test drive. and it actually did pretty well. Idled great, pulled great, had plenty of power, but still a slight hesitation when I stomped on the gas. Problem is more pronounced when engine is cold though, and seems to get better as the engine warms up .....

Well even another update. On my second test drive, a bit longer, I lost my brakes just before my house. Pedal now goes to the floor. brakes were fine one minute, now nada.

Will this ever stop.... Beginning to wonder about 928 ownership.

And my left front suspension is creaking like a MF. I just did a front end refresh. Quite noisy when I push the fender up and down. ---- Will have to see what is causing that.

So I guess I will have to do some more winter projects....

Are you an auto ?
Perhaps your throttle/Bowden cables at the quad need adjusting.
If an auto, your car will run like a brick unless the engine and transmission are communicating well.

i had this same problem a while back and i changed out the idle control value. it seemed to fix it for 2 months then the same problem come back again. cold start idle is poor when warmed up it works fine. but i haven't changed my temp sensor yet so mine could be that issue now.

Yes it is an auto, and that adjustment is quite possible. there seems to be a good bit of slack in my cables.

I have to fix the brakes now. I was hoping it was a caliper or a line, but no fluid, so looks like it is my master cylinder. I will prob redo the calipers while I have the MC off...
