After years of trying to get the CIS tuned properly I finally am in the process of installing a wide band sensor to help me adjust my mixture. I have the under hood part done and now will move on to the interior part of the install. Will post pics soon.

After the gauge install it read 19 so I was way too lean. I still have the air pump hooked up which I think adds about 2 so I adjusted to 16.4 for now and will soon unhook the air pump to set more accurately I think 14.4 is the idle goal?

Yes disconnect air pump whether it is into heads or exhaust it'll just muddy the reading.

I might head for the high thirteens, myself for insurance against bad fuel, unexpected fault, whatever.
The trick will be, IIRC, seeing how the mixture changes from the baseline CO as the WUR follows the warm up cycle and the fuel pressures change.

Not sure how close you might be to Jim Doerr/928 Classics, but dialing it in could make for a rewarding afternoon.

I have this in my 81. Once warmed up the air pump should be vented to the airbox...so why remove it for mixture set?

The workshop manual says to disconnect the air pump for accurate af reading. Just going by that. Others have posted it makes a reading of 2 higher reading with pump attached. I am new to this but this is what research shows. Mine is a euro with no cats, lambda or O2 sensors from the factory and piped different than US version

This is fascinating to me.
Any go-along details, and certainly any photographs,
would be wonderful.

Thank you so much for posting this.

What brand did you get? I installed an AEM and don't know how I went without it for so long.
