Default An oddball problem with the tool kit

It's with the spark plug wrench I bought a few years ago (i.e., it didn't come with the car). It is marked "21" and "Klein", and it looks like a duck, but it quacks too loud and doesn't fit - the OD is about 1mm to large. Anyone else run into this problem? Is this a 944 tool? 968?

The 944 and probably the 968 have pretty much the same cam cover wells for plug access. The tool you have is a Klein aftermarket tool, not an original Porsche tool. ;(

A decade or two ago, I grabbed a couple extended spark plug tools from H-F. Of course they stopped selling them immediately after I bought them. These were pre-928 stewardship period, and were added to my travelling toolkit for boats and water toys at the time. The plug socket is captive on the extension bar, with a swivel joint there as well. Great for avoiding dropping the socket and plug into a bilge. Turns out that the socket fits absolutely perfectly down in the S4+ cam cover wells for the plugs. With the captive socket, there's no way to leave the socket in there while extracting the tool from the covers. Almost like it was made specifically for the 928. Having a standard 3/8-drive on it means it takes a torque wrench too. The extension is too long to fit in the 928 tool tray though. ;(

Thanks for the info - I've always respected Klein as a decent tool maker, but I guess I will preserve this one for show (thought about grinding it down, but then I would have to re-chrome it - no way) but instead I'll get something like the HF tool that actually works.

The original spark plug wrenches in my '82 and my '89 are both Klein 21 mm.

I've always assumed that my Spark Plug wrench was original. I believe it's a Klein only because my picture looks like it may say "Klein" I'll have to check when I get home.
