All I know is, it doesn't matter how much horizontal surface I have in the garage it all gets covered with stuff.

Harbor Freight also has a great price on their rolling tool cart at the moment. I don't have any of these in my shop, but we do use them at our maker/hackerspace and they are really convenient. Never seen them that low before after the online coupon:

Lightbulb HF Rolling Tool Cart On Sale for $99.99

The H-F insert in 8/16/15 Sunday's paper here has a $99.99 Super Coupon for the 61952/61634/95959 tool cart that others have recommended. Use coupon code 82798331 to order.

THe insert also offers the popular 44" roller cabinet that Jim mentioned above for $369.99. Use coupon code 82759371.

Both coupons are good through 10/24/15.

The stores --may-- honor the coupon codes, as the small print says "original coupon must be presented". They can always be used to order from the website though.

Dig through your local paper or the junk mail you get- Harbor constantly sends out coupons.

Try to get the store to sell you the cart/ tool chest at the coupon price- if you order online the freight is a
LOT & more than cancels out the savings.

61282 heavy duty steel low profile floor jack, the one that BC was considering, has a coupon 82819398 offering it for $84.99.

Jim's comment on shipping -- Items that aren't identified as "overweight" ship for a flat $6.99. The cart and te jack might come at that lower ship rate. The bigger box wil need to be motor freight, and there are delivery logistics to consider if you don't have a forklift to get it off the truck.

I put in my zip code to see what the freight would be on the 44" tool chest- unless you live somewhere where there is no Harbor store (almost impossible !) shipping cancels out any extra savings by ordering online.

The interesting part is I live 10 minutes away from the nearest store, so they must be shipping from their central whse.

Results:
Enter your shipping destination (zip code)

Choose a shipping method: (truck)

(quote) = Truck Shipping $96.94

You could buy a lot of beer & gas for someone that has a truck or a small trailer and get it at the store for a lot less....

I ordered it yesterday and the shipping was only $6.99. I cannot see where I can get a discount as the coupon Bob listed gets a better price and they should honor that and refund the difference.

Today's e-mail flyer for their upcoming weekend parking lot sale lists the 44" chest for $352, and the 3T lo-pro steel floor jck for $79.99. You should be able to see these coupons from their website. If not, PM your email and I'll forward them as PDF.

Without getting too far off the 928 topic, the GarageJournal guys have a running thread that is a soundout for all things Harbor Freight. They share reviews of products in the real world, and sometimes coupon info although that is often obsolete in a month or so after posting. New digs here has a store within a couple miles; K used that as part of her list of reasons why we should move here... Interesting but certainly not a primary reason. They do come up with cheap interesting stuff every once in a while. And in spite of having a couple rollers of Snap-On and such, there are some H-F tools that just get the job done better. Plus for clinic days, I am able to keep pretty much the whole H-F collection intact after the clinics. Less fortunate when I did them with the better tools out, I hate to report.

One of the joys of their coupon distribution system is that the same coupon item can appear in several different places at different prices during the same week. One flier from the newspaper has regularly lower prices than the other coupons that come from another section of the same newspaper. Know that, and coupon shop carefully. I was in the store a while ago, and mentioned that I had a coupon for something but left it at home. Could they give me the coupon price? "Whcih coupon?" she asked... It's an interesting business model, kind of like the new-customer incentives from many stores and services. "New customers get an additional xx% off!" Hey, why not reward your existing loyal customers the same way? With half a dozen other cell-phone carriers scrambling for the business, for example, why not offer at least the same deals the competition offers to keep your loyal customers loyal?

I think their business is based on everyone using either the 20% off or whatever the current coupon deal is.
Must be working, they did $2 billion last year & the owner/ ceo sold a house for big $$$- still has another one

They go thru store managers pretty quickly- the one nearest to me used to have a picture of the mgr. on the wall- no more.

I'm terrible at it - I have 2 huge Listas ( 5'h x 4'w x 30" d) that have plenty of room.
I find myself having to go around with a 5 gal bucket & do a tool round up when it gets to the point I can't find anything...
I agree Jim, the best way is when you are done put every thing where it belongs and you know where to find it after. That is what I do, otherwise I might loose some tools. I'm sure that is what happened to my 28mm socket when my son worked on my daughters car and he tells me he doesn't have it ! GRRRRRRRRRRR

The local store here still has the same manager as they did a year-plus ago the first time I went in. She's good, knows and works well with all the employees, and knows a lot of the locals/regulars too it seems. Ditto the store in Pasadena, Ca, near our previous home. Same guy for 5+ years anyway.

Keeping employees here isn't that tough with a tourist economy, except that Oregon is getting into legalized recreational marijuana very soon. There are still more people than jobs, so pay isn't great for most. Wal-Mart manager blames her inability to find employees on their inability to pass pee tests. Plenty of applicants she says.

To wrap this up a bit:

I went with the HF 4 Drawer Unit for $113,
Ernst Wrench Organizer Ernst Wrench Organizer
and
Ernst Socket Organizer Ernst Socket Organizer
.

I like the Socket Organizer because it's modular, re-configurable and can grow as my collection of sockets grows.

I'll pick up a couple of the cheap HF socket holders for some of my longer hex bits and will lay them on their side, but for now - I'm approaching some level of organization.

I have tried using the wrench holders, but in my opinion they take up too much room. I have not found a good way of keeping the wrenches organized.
