Can Vin Decode be wrong ?

Just went to see an 86 which needs repair -
Vin# - WP0JB0927GS860897
Vehicle is in very good condition. Appears to be all original interior. I ran the Vin and the decoder told me it was a manual transmission. The car is an Auto.
Surely no one would have swapped a manual for an auto - would they ?

Kind of like looking at the pads on the dog's rear feet to determine sex of dog... All visual evidence so far (your picture...) screams "Much More Desirable Automatic Transmission" to me. But you won't know for sure 'til you inspect, looking up at the bottoms of the rear feet. ![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
What does the build sticker say? The one under the rear deck rug, stuck to the top of thr fuel tank. if that one says "manual" I'd do some more research. But the car is the car, so doo the 'rear feet' inspection and report back

Weird. I ran it through the 928 Registry VIN decoder (http://928registry.928oc.org/928-resources/vin-decoder) and got the same thing. You left out the "S" in the VIN, btw. ![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
The decoder shows it has 220 limited slip - 895 out of 4,881 total cars built that year had it and I'll bet that option is most often associated with the 5spd. Hmmm.
I'm with Dr. Bob - check the build sticker for option code 481 (5spd).

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?
